What Is Mise-en-Scene
In the current course I am taking, filmmaking is an important part of the AICE Media Studies course. Understanding mise-en-scene will be beneficial to me as it is an important part of film.
Mise-en-scene refers to the arrangement of scenery and stage properties in a play. In film, mise-en-scene includes everything in that camera shot, from the objects in that frame to the lighting of the scene, to the actors. Mise-en-scene creates an overall effect of the film for the audience. Directors create mise-en-scene by telling a story in one single image or scene. They utilize all the elements in an image/scene to create a story. There are two different types of Mise-en-scene which include naturalistic, which is a more realistic scene, and theatrical which include exaggerated settings that are not meant to be normal.
